Archive for the "useless" organ

Ho, Ho, Ho!

Man, you ship me off to the States and I just disappear from the blogville for awhile, it appears. For some reason it seems like there’s a lot less time in the days over here and blogging kind of falls off the list of priorities.
So, we’re heading back to Germany on Friday. “Friday?” you ask. [...]

The Reality of the Situation

So over here I talked about the lovely little morning jaunt in the woods today as I decided to use my own two feet for my commute in.
Let’s set the record straight, shall we?
Ever since that damn organ decided it needed to be out of my body (and how), my, um, bowels have not quite [...]

A Gallbladder Removal Success Story

One of the worst things about having this surgery was that the horrible, horrible things I had read on the Internet. Things like “You shall never again drink beer after this surgery.” Or, “French fries will be the devil.” Or, “You will have no life, your friends will abandon you, and your husband will find [...]

Deal with the Devil

I was talking with my friend Schooly whose mom had gallbladder surgery a few years back, and he passed on her words of wisdom: no housework for a week.
Ah, but for only a week?
Right before surgery, when I was getting instructions from the doctor, he instructed me to take it easy for a few weeks. [...]

Needles

I told you I hated needles!

I survived the weekend!

But, more importantly, so did Travis. Although I think if I ask for another straw I’m going to find one in someplace I’d rather not imagine.
In all, I’m doing ok. I feel monumentally better each day, but I still find myself saying “Shouldn’t I feel better?” For example, I just finished a shower and lived [...]

The Verdict:

Alive.
But not really wanting to be.
Have you ever been asked to rate your pain on a scale of 1-10? In the past week, my “10″ has been re-defined three times. Getting out of bed is a new “10″ each time.
I know I am whining, but I, for some reason, wasn’t expecting it to hurt this [...]

My Fear

I’m not really scared of the surgery, that will come tomorrow (and boy, will it come. I hate needles, I don’t even want to think about scalpels.) I’m not even so much scared of the pain afterwards. I’m slightly scared of not being able to eat/drink normally, but only time will tell that. What I’m [...]

The Surgery

I’m scheduled to go under the knife tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. Which means getting there at 6 a.m. Hot damn, that’s early!
Hopefully I won’t have to stay the night, although patients typically do. I’m young, I’m told, and so it should be a piece o’ cake. (Yum, cake. Can I have some now?)
About 10% of [...]

Home Remedies

Yesterday, on my way home from work, I stopped at the nearby natural grocers to see if they had any sure-proof, cure-all gallbladder suggestions. I scoured their library of books until I found a section on gallstones and what I should take to help alleviate pain and possibly even eliminate stones.
About an hour after getting [...]
