Paranoia

Lately, I’ve kind of warmed up to the idea of someday, maybe, possibly PERHAPS having a child. It’s still a remote and not overly appealing thought, but the fact of the matter is we have too much money and need a drain to throw it at. That, and we need someone change our Depends when [...]

German for Dummies

We started German class last night.
We suck.
Apparently, German is a really hard language. Since I retained exactly three things from the class which was only 13 hours ago, I can see why.
Three things:
1) das Buch (the book)
2) die Hand (the hand)
3) der Guli (the pen)
And I’m not even positive I have the gender of “the” [...]

Mourning

A guy Travis worked with for years named Eric died over the weekend. And to think that on Friday when Eric left work he probably left papers out, like I do, and sticky notes on his monitor to remind him of what to do on Monday and photos on his desk. I wonder what all [...]

Big Brother

Everyone, please welcome the nice people at the IRS reading my website!
(In unison now, “Hi, IRS!”)
How, you’re wondering, do I know that the IRS is here, analyzing my words and watching my life? Oh, because not long after this post I got AUDITED.
I always figured an audit would involve every aspect of your tax return. [...]

Blanket Statement

My mom, being from Iowa where you’re forced to spend many days inside hunkering down from the cold, has become an expert knitter. She’s actually been knitting for as long as I can remember - mostly clothing that I was horrified to wear, you know, IN PUBLIC, because one of my friends might see!
A few [...]

Just like an Alfred Hitchcock story

When we first moved into our house two years ago, we had a small tragedy. The construction guys working on remodeling the basement pointed out that there was a bird, a very sick bird, a bird they could walk up to and feed water from their hands. This bird was moping around our driveway, unable [...]

Family Matters

My sister arrived on Saturday and is staying with us through tomorrow. Which is great and all, but she brought her three sons.
I love them, I do. Just not when we are living in the same house.
Yesterday, I took the boys snowboarding. Kind of. After about an hour of “lessons” (of which they listened to [...]

Dear People Who Sat Behind Us On The Plane From Frankfurt,

You suck.
Love,
Travis + Erin
P.S. It was COACH for god’s sake, not first class. Meaning, the leg room was less than ample. I’m surprised you didn’t notice all of those subtle glances over our shoulders when we were jarred unmercifully from the beginnings of sleep by you doing the tango on our seatbacks. Or the shooting [...]

Happy Holidays!

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to my favorite day of the year.
I love this day so much that words often don’t adequately describe the emotion I feel. It’s not because this is the day my husband proposed to me years ago. It’s not because it’s typically a weekend we spend in Vegas. It’s not because it’s [...]

A brief recap of events of the past eight days

Sunday: Dad and brother leave at 1:00 to return to Iowa. 1:00 a.m. Yes, they’re crazy. I head to the airport around noon to catch my flight from Denver –> Chicago –> Frankfurt.
Monday: Arrive Frankfurt at 11:10 a.m. Run to hotel to freshen up before going to the office. Work. Eat dinner at a German [...]
