Congratulations, You’re Pregnant!

If you know me personally, then I have some good/bad/exciting/terrifying news for you.

You’re pregnant.

Unless you’re of the male persuasion, of course, and then it’s your ovary-bearing partner who’s blessed/cursed/peeing a lot.

Kind of like global warming, it started gradually and without much fanfare. A pregnancy here, a baby shower there. Suddenly, though, I’m on red-alert; it’s reached terrifying extremes.

It didn’t really hit me until today. I asked our friends that we went to Venezuela with in Febuary where we should go for a vacation in ‘07. As it turns out, there won’t be a trip this year. Or for the next 18 years.

So to all of you who are now expecting: I’m sorry/excited/happy for you all and your new baby/alien being. Accept my congratulations/condolences. I’m sure your baby is/will be the cutest/most charming/brightest baby ever brought forth.

It’s with regrets that I’ll need to knock you off the list of “people who are spontaneous and can do spur-of-the-moment things whenever they want,” where “spur-of-the-moment” is as simple as tooling around without a carseat in the back of the minivan. I mean, I’m sure it won’t be that way with YOU, dear reader, but the rest of my friends? Yeah, that’s who I’m talking about.

Ah, yes. Friends with children. Things usually calm down when the kids head off to school, and then you seem to get some of the friends back. Some, however, are goners. It’s SO sad! Um, I mean, it’s a gift from God!
